In this busy and sometimes stressful lead up to the festive season, our workload increases with food and gifts to plan, family to organize and what may seem like a million little things which can easily build up and overwhelm us.
One of the most important things to be aware of is sufficient deep restful sleep. To achieve this may seem an impossible task, but with a little knowledge we can avoid fatigue, foggy thinking, and depleted well-being.
Firstly, avoid coffee and alcohol in the hours preceding your usual bedtime, and food less than two hours before you retire, as your body will still be trying to process it while you are trying to relax.
Secondly, always sleep in a completely darkened room, a nightlight can trigger depression and inhibits the production of Melatonin (the sleep hormone).
If sleep still evades you, try a few drops of Lavender essential oil on your pillow, it has a wonderful relaxing effect on your mind, helping to slow your busy thoughts.
These few habits will help you through to a Christmas Day of true enjoyment and filled with sustained energy and well-being.
